The notion of tithing has its origins in the Old Testament where people would have to give 10% of ones crops. Today many Churches have adopted tithing as a spiritual giving program which asks the individual to consider giving 10% of their income. There is certainly something spiritually beneficial about tithing.
In today’s society it might be difficult for one to give 10% of their income. If you are considering tithing, but cannot afford to give 10%, consider giving only 5% and then when you are able, increase it 1% over time until you can get there. Tithing is another consideration for giving monetarily.
